Toshiba introduces its XG5 series NVM Express solid state drives that uses 64-layer of 3D flash memories. This allows the Toshiba XG5 series to offer a maximum capacity of 1024GB (1TB) in a single-sided M.2 2280 form factor. The new Toshiba XG5 SSDs equipped with the latest 64-layer, 3-bit-per-cell TLC (triple-level cell) BiCS FLASH, utilize the features and benefits of PCI Express (PCIe) Gen3 x 4 lanes and SLC cache to deliver blazing speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s sequential write and 3,000 MB/s sequential read.
Aside from impressive read and write speeds and huge capacities, the Toshiba XG5 PCIe NVMe SSDs also feature energy efficiency compared to previous generation SSDs. The XG5 series features a reduced standby mode power consumption by over 50%, less than 3mW under the test conditions of link power management state L1.2 in non-operation power state.
The Toshiba XG5 Series SSDs will be offered in three different capacities; 256GB, 512GB and 1024GB, all of which are in M.2 2280 single-sided form factor. Toshiba will also be releasing self-encrypting (SED) models that supports TCG Opal Version 2.1. These models are ideal for business applications.
Toshiba will be showcasing the new XG5 Series SSDs at the Computex 2017 exhibit from the 30th of May until 3rd of June. The XG5 SSD sample shipments to OEM customers have already started but in limited quantities. Toshiba will gradually increase shipments from the third calendar quarter of this year.
