It's increasingly likely that NVIDIA will not resist seeing through the final quarter of 2017 without releasing new consumer graphics hardware, but who are we to complain? Despite rising pressures on GPU pricing (due in no small part to the ongoing mining craze), supply won't be fazing them as they look set to launch the GeForce GTX 1070Ti later this month, at least according to NordicHardware and Videocardz.com.

Positioned as a compromise card between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080, the rumoured specifications nip at the heels of the latter whilst being priced competitively with the former.



Each GTX 1070Ti should be equipped with the same GP104 GPU at the heart of both GTX 1080 and 1070, but in the case of the new card will be shipped with 2430 CUDA cores enabled (38 Streaming Multiprocessors, or SMs). This compares very favourably with 1920 (30 SM) on the GTX 1070 and only 5% fewer than the GTX 1080. Clearly, it's designed to compete with Vega56's current allure at the ~$400 price point.

With those GPU specifications immediate comparisons are being made with the GTX 1080, especially in terms of performance expectation. One significant difference however is the lack of the faster GDDR5X memory; this may be the major reason why otherwise similar cards can have a near $100 price differential.

Speaking of - reports peg the prospective MSRP of the GTX 1070Ti at $429, and assuming approximate price parity we might see it sold near to £390 inc. VAT in the UK. To put that into some context, currently partner GeForce GTX 1070's are sold from ~£375. Newegg.com currently lists the GTX 1070 from $410, while the GTX 1080 is a sight more expensive $510.

With any luck, greater performance in this price bracket will ease the pricing pressures on the GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 1070, both of which ballooned in recent months following a price correction down to $249 and $349 respectively in March. It will also be interesting to see how it compares with both the AMD RX Vega56 and Vega64, which are currently in the process of being rolled out as partner cards.

According to the sources, the new card will launch officially on October 26th, but be in stock and available to one week later on November 2nd. If that's the case then you can probably expect reviews a little ahead of availability. It also seems likely that partner versions with bespoke cooling will be available from launch, as the GPUs are almost certainly compatible with existing GTX 1070 partner board designs.

This news follows a hastily retracted Facebook post by none other than GIGABYTE, teasing "Ti will get you too... eventually", and screenshots of an ASUS Strix GTX 1070Ti alongside other system specs listed on a Chinese forum.
