MSI RX 5700 XT GAMING X Review

Conclusion

There isn’t a lot that separates each of the RX 5700 XT graphics cards that we have tested. It’ll be immediately apparent that pricing and cooling are where the differences lie.

The new MSI RX 5700 XT GAMING X is on par with other rival XT options – sometimes we find it topping the leaderboard for this class of GPU, sometimes it falls behind slightly, but only by a marginal value in terms of average fps.

We personally love what MSI has done with the design of the new Twin Frozr 7 shroud – it looks sleek, elegant and stylish while keeping the RGB lighting to a minimum. Obviously, the visual appearance is subjective but if you prefer a more of an elegant approach to the design of the card then MSI nails it here!

On closer inspection the Twin Frozr 7 cooler does an excellent job in keeping noise levels under control and also offers pleasing results for the thermal performance, however after detaching the cooler from the board, we did uncover a slight issue with some of the VRAM only being partially covered. From further investigation, doesn’t doesn’t have a detrimental effect on VRAM temperatures but MSI should address this going forward.

Pricing sees GAMING X retail for $449 US, $462 GBP and $779 AUD. At this price the GAMING X is positioned with the more expensive XT aftermarket cards but it does a great job in offering top-class performance.

MSI’s revamp of the GAMING X sees it take on a new look which should fit in with most clean, minimalist configurations. It tackles 1440p gaming titles admirably and comes equipped with a decent cooling solution!
