Microsoft today announces OneDrive Personal Vault, a new layer of security for OneDrive personal accounts offering enhanced protection over sensitive and important personal files. Microsoft will also upgrade the OneDrive standalone storage plan from 50GB to 100GB for free along with new storage options for Office 365 subscribers.
OneDrive Personal Vault
The new OneDrive Personal Vault runs on a trusted Microsoft cloud storage which features leading-edge security measures to ensure the safety and security of your personal files. Personal Vault is a protected storage area in OneDrive that can only be accessed using a strong authentication method or a second step of identity verification such as a PIN, fingerprint, face, or code sent to your personal email or SMS. All the locked personal files such as documents, photos, and videos in the Personal Vault can be easily accessed on OneDrive.com or your PC, phone, or tablet. Just enter your PIN, or fingerprint, or face, or code to open your Personal Vault on any capable device.OneDrive Personal Vault adds to the robust privacy and security that OneDrive currently offers, including file encryption at rest and in transit, suspicious activity monitoring, ransomware detection and recovery, mass file deletion notification and recovery, virus scanning on download for known threats, and version history for all file types.

Scan and shoot directly into Personal Vault
Use the OneDrive app to scan documents, take pictures, or shoot a video and save directly into your Personal Vault for safekeeping.
Extra Protection on and off your PC
Personal Vault uses more than just two-step verification to help keep your files safe and private. On Windows 10 PCs, OneDrive syncs your Personal Vault files to a BitLocker-encrypted area of your local hard drive. All the contents of the Personal Vault are also encrypted in the trusted Microsoft cloud storage.
Automatic locking after a short period of inactivity
The OneDrive Personal Vault automatically relocks itself after a short period of inactivity whether in your PC or device. It will require reauthentication to reopen and access Personal Vault.
OneDrive Storage Plans
Along with the free upgrade for OneDrive to 100GB, Microsoft will also be rolling out new additional storage plans for Office 365 subscribers. See storage plans below.
