The rumours were true. At their Computex 2018 keynote this morning Intel announced a new limited edition CPU chosen to commemorate 40 years since the launch of their first 8086 processor. That CPU will be the Core i7-8086K Anniversary Edition.

Looking very much like a specially binned Core i7-8700K, the i7-8086K is an LGA1151 CPU based on Intel's Coffee Lake architecture. It will feature six cores clocked at a base 4GHz and reach a maximum of 5GHz in Turbo mode, the first time this has been attained as a reference frequency at retail. It's also equipped with 256kb L2 cache, and 12MB of shared L3 cache. The CPU will support hyperthreading for a total of twelve independent threads.

Only 8086 units of this Limited Edition CPU are being manufactured. It will be released on June 8th (at a price as-yet unspecified), alongside a global sweepstake where you can enter to win one of your own.
