Google Chrome launches its strongest level of protection for personal Google account owners particularly those that are deemed vulnerable to intentional cyberattacks – the Advanced Protection Program. The program packs an evolving list of security offerings that offers a holistic approach to protecting the user across different ways of a cyberattack.
Today, Advanced Protection Program users who have enabled sync in Chrome will automatically receive strong protection against risky downloads like those carrying malware. Google extends the industry-leading safeguards beyond Gmail to include “drive-by downloads” which are all over across the web. Advanced Protection users will get an even stronger level of protection with downloaded content that will now prompt additional warnings.
What is Google’s Advanced Protection Program?
Security Key: Stronger Than 2-Step Verification
Even the most security-conscious users can be tricked by a sophisticated phishing attack. To protect you from this threat, Advanced Protection goes further than traditional 2-Step Verification, requiring you to use a physical Security Key in addition to your password to sign in to your Google Account.Safeguard Data By Limited Access
Signing up with apps and services may sometimes ask you to give access to your Google Account data. In general, this doesn’t pose a risk but sophisticated attackers could compromise or impersonate an app or service to gain access to your personal data. To help protect you, Advanced Protection allows only Google apps and select third-party apps to access your emails and Drive files. Most third-party apps that require access to your Gmail or Drive data, such as travel tracking apps, will no longer have permission.Block Fraudulent Accounts
Easily block fraudulent accounts that are impersonating you and pretending to be locked out of your account. Advanced Protection adds extra steps to verify your identity during the account recovery process.Learn how to set up Google’s Advanced Protection Program on the video below.
