Intel has recently released the new Intel Optane Memory Technology that improves storage drive performance in Intel 200-chipset based motherboards. The technology enhances both mechanical disk drives as well as solid state drives. With that, GIGABYTE releases new BIOS versions for its GIGABYTE and AORUS Intel 200 Series motherboards that will enable Intel Optane Memory. Intel Optane can only be enabled with a BIOS updated GIGABYTE or AORUS Intel 200 Series motherboard paired with a 7th Generation Intel Core processor. GIGABYTE Vice President, Henry Hao, releases a statement regarding the updates and the new Intel Optane technology.

”Intel Optane Memory is a game-changer for this industry. With the market still relying heavily on mechanical drives for storage capacity, Optane will make traditional drives new again. By giving mechanical HDDs a means to keep up with new SSDs and NVMes, Optane is the way of the future.” - Henry Kao (Vice President – GIGABYTE Motherboard Business Unit)

About Intel Optane Memory Technology
Intel Optane Memory offers high-speed response when combined with large capacity drives. It is first introduces in Intel’s M.2 drives. When Intel Optane is enabled, the performance of the drive is accelerated while maintaining the current system storage capacity wherein this improves the efficiency and productivity of the system’s computing power as a whole. With Intel Optane, games and applications can be installed faster and launch quicker as latency is greatly improved. Learn more about the Intel Optane Memory technology at the Intel website.

How to Update BIOS
To gain the full benefits of the new Intel Optane Memory technology, it must be enabled through the BIOS. GIGABYTE released new BIOSes for the both the GIGABYTE and AORUS Intel 200 Series motherboards. You can automatically update your GIGABYTE or AORUS motherboard’s BIOS using the APP Centre utility if you have it installed. Simply run an update and have the application install the latest BIOS version available.

For doing a manual BIOS update, download the latest BIOS version from the GIGABYTE or AORUS website under the product page of your motherboard model. Under the description you can find details about what’s new about the BIOS version which should include Intel Optane Memory support. Save the file in a flash drive and flash the BIOS of your motherboard using “Q-FLASH”, the BIOS flash utility tool used to update the BIOS of the motherboard.
