Today PC cooling and component manufacturer Phanteks are expanding beyond their comfort zones with the Revolt line of power supplies. The venture starts with the Revolt Pro, an innovative design that seeks to add a level of expandability and redundancy to internally mounted PSUs. Individually available in 850W and 1000W 80PLUS Gold-rated models, each can be attached to a second unit to supply more power, greater efficiency in power delivery, or protection against a single unit failure.
At its core, the Revolt Pro is a high-quality modular PSU engineered with premium components such as 100% Japanese capacitors and cable-free internals to ensure stability and reliability. Unlike other PSUs however it has additional panel connections for attaching a 24-pin motherboard and 8-pin EPS 12V connector from a second power supply, allowing for advanced features that are plug and play.
To start with, the power of both connected PSUs can be combined safely to offer an output that is higher than the vast majority of consumer-class PSUs. This could be of particular benefit to those running multiple GPUs and extreme overclocks.
These PSUs can then be load-balanced to hit optimum efficiency, potentially exhibiting characteristics that are better than their individual efficiency rating curves suggest. Load-balancing under hybrid mode, with PSUs operating at under 40%, would also allow fanless operation due to low temperatures.
In the event of a PSU or power socket failure while in dual-PSU configuration your system could still operate safely due to the built-in redundancy, helping to protect data and allow safe system shutdown. The technology that allows these features was patented by Phanteks, while Seasonic powers much of the hardware inside.
Of course, not every PC chassis supports a dual-PSU configuration. It's convenient then that Phanteks have designed multiple cases with just this configuration in mind.

Also available to preorder is the Phanteks Revolt X, a slightly more conventional design available in 1000W and 1200W 80+ Platinum models. Built to exacting standards and entirely modular, its major party trick is being able to support and supply power to two motherboards at once independently. If you're running a dual-system configuration housed in a high-end desktop case, or perhaps an even more luxurious build integrated into a desk, this option would immediately cut down on the cable clutter.
The Phanteks Revolt X is available to preorder at Overclockers.co.uk today priced from £214.99 (inc V.A.T.). The Revolt Pro meanwhile can be preordered from £122.99 (inc V.A.T.).
