[Vortez]: Can you please introduce yourself and tell us what your role at Noctua is?
[JD]: Hi there, my name is Jakob Dellinger and I’m Noctua’s press and PR manager.
[Vortez]: How long have you been at Noctua?
[JD]: I’ve been at Noctua right from the start back in 2005.
[Vortez]: Outside of Noctua, what do you get up to in your spare time? What are your hobbies etc?
[JD]: Well, first and foremost, I’m very much interested in philosophy and I hope to start my PhD sometime next year. Secondly, I love doing sports, especially mountain biking and football.
[Vortez]: You have mentioned that you are the press and PR manager for Noctua, what does this role involve and what are your responsibilities?
[JD]: Firstly, I’m handling the relations with hardware websites and magazines, so I’m organising product reviews, writing press releases, etc. Working with journalists is much more than simply getting press coverage for us though. We carefully analyze test results, articles, feedback and user comments in order to keep improving our products, so it’s also one of my key responsibilities to channel all this information into our development process.
[Vortez]: As the year draws to a close and we enter 2009 are you pleased with what Noctua has accomplished this year?
[JD]: Yes, very much so. We’ve received excellent feedback on our new products, both from customers and journalists, and I’m confident in saying that we’ve strengthened our position as one of the leading providers of premium quality quiet components. In fact, our products got more than 300 awards and recommendations in the course of the year and the number of avid Noctua users keeps growing and growing. I might also add that we’ve successfully ventured into the market of silent server cooling and established some very interesting cooperations like the recently announced partnership with LaCie.
[Vortez]: What should we expect from Noctua in 2009? Is there anything you can reveal to us?
[JD]: Hehe, I saw that one coming (laughs)! Well, I’ve always got to be fairly tight-lipped in this regard, but I can confirm that we plan to introduce an update to our highly popular NF-S12 fan series in Q1. I think this is going to be pretty exciting for silent enthusiasts. We also aim to expand our fan line-up with a completely new model that’s probably going to be a very interesting choice for CPU cooling. Can’t say much more right now, but speaking of CPU cooling, there’ll also be new cooler models of course, so stay tuned for more Core i7 support!
[Vortez]: The GPU market is an ever changing sector, there aren’t very many brands for after-market coolers. Have you considered moving into this field?
[JD]: Yes, we’ve got several projects in this regard and I hope that we’ll be able enter the final stages in the course of the next year. As you’ve said though, the GPU market isn’t easy, many users don’t want to void their warranty by using after-market coolers, the variety of card designs is huge and changing pretty fast, so there are quite a few difficulties to face. We’re getting lots of user requests for a Noctua GPU cooler, but we really want to stick to our policy of not releasing anything that’s not 100% up to our high standards. I hope that we’ll be able to get something going next year though.
[Vortez]: Out of all the products you have released, which one is your favourite and why?
[JD]: Hm, that’s a good question. I think I’d probably choose the NH-U12P CPU cooler. Our customers love this cooler because they get a premium quality heatsink, a premium quality fan and premium quality thermal compound in one package and I’d say that’s a very good example of our philosophy of providing great attention to detail and thoroughgoing quality throughout the whole product. Of course, the same would be true for coolers like the NH-C12P or NH-U9B as well, but the NH-U12P was the first to be bundled with our NT-H1 thermal compound and the NF-P12 120mm fan.
[Vortez]: Well it’s been a pleasure talking with you Jakob, thanks for your time. I’d like to wish you and your family a happy holiday and New Year.
[JD]: Thanks, it’s been my pleasure. Happy holidays and New Year to you, your family and all your readers!
