PRESS RELEASE

Amsterdam, 20 July 2017 – Two new monitors designed by the renowned design house Studio F. A. Porsche and conceived by the display specialist AOC are now available in stores. The 24" AOC PDS241 and 27" AOC PDS271 are one-of-a-kind monitors with a unique appearance. Both monitors boast a 3-sides frameless AH-IPS panel, an asymmetrical metal stand which hides the power/display cables inside and thus achieves an ultra-slim minimalistic look. The 27-inch PDS271 recently received the 2017 COMPUTEX d&i award for its outstanding design.

Design philosophy by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche

The journey of the outstanding design started with a quote from Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, which is one of Studio F. A. Porsche’s leading principles: “If you analyse the function of an object, its form often becomes obvious.” In the case of a monitor, the function is displaying visual content, which is done by its core component, the panel. So conceptually an ideal monitor would be a pure, clean panel, without any stand, cables or other distractions. But when met with reality, today’s monitors usually come with some clutter in the form of cables hanging from their back. So the design idea of the PDS Series was to get rid of this clutter by combining the functions of the stand and the cables into one, somehow forming the cables in a way that they would become the stand. The end result is an asymmetrical metal stand, inspired by the natural free flowing appearance of a cable, which holds the cable wiring inside. The cylindrical shape of the stand’s hinge also gives users an intuitive understanding of its tilting capability.

Innovative, sleek and elegant

The PDS series displays are an eye-catcher from every angle. On the front-side, the 3-sides-frameless design lets users appreciate the AH-IPS panels in their full glory. The asymmetrical metal stand accentuates the simplistic and minimalistic look. These monitors also have the cleanest appearance ever on the back-side, as there are no cables visible, which makes them a perfect monitor for public spaces. The side-profile of the PDS series is mesmerising with a mere 5.2 mm thickness.

Power and display connections are routed together through the metal stand, which end up in an external modular box with HDMI and power inputs. The integration of cables into the stand revolutionises the approach to standard monitor design. With the PDS Series, “the form” grows out of “the function”.

Outstanding vision, inside and outside

From the outside, these displays look like no other monitor on the market and on the inside, they are also equipped with the latest AH-IPS panels from AOC which suit practically every use case. These panels provide 1920 x 1080 pixels at Full HD resolution with wide viewing angles of 178°. Thanks to AOC’s SuperColor WCG technology, the panels can cover 100% of the sRGB and 90% of the NTSC colour space.

Both monitors are also equipped with AOC’s Low Blue Light technology, reducing harmful short wavelength blue light, and Flicker-Free technology, which regulates the monitors’ brightness with DC (direct current) instead of PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) in order to reduce flicker and relieve eye-discomfort.

The MSRP is £189 for the PDS241 model and £259 for the PDS271.
