Introduction
Creative have a very good reputation world-wide for providing quality audio devices. They have been around for a very long time and have great experience when it comes to experimenting with the sound waves. In this review we are going to take a look at one of their gaming headsets, they have chosen to team up with gaming legend Jonathan 'Fatal1ty Wendel who has won many a title in the gaming world in various games such as Quake, Painkiller and Doom. Fatal1ty has been supported by Creative and other brands such as Abit in his gaming career, so if such a headset is endorsed by a big talent such as Fatal1ty will this give you the edge over your opponent? We find out...
A Closer Look
The Fatal1ty headset comes in an attractive box which is both eye-catching and very informative. The inside of the front panel contains text detailing the various features of the headset and how they can enhance your gaming experience.
Inside the box you will receive the headset, a detachable microphone and a carry case.
Creative's headset bears the logo of Jonathan Fatal1ty Wendel as well as the headband too. The headset is very yet it sustains a professional look. The materials used on the earphones are very soft, useful for those who spend extended hours in gaming sessions. We found this headset generally quite comfortable even after 2 hours of testing in a single session.
What makes this gaming headset stand out from the rest is the ability to detach the microphone. You can physically detach the microphone from the headset and you can have the microphone attached but disabled using the button on the in-line adjuster, this is a great feature to control speech during gaming sessions, especially good if you are a noisy eater! This adjuster allows you to control the volume also and it can be clipped onto your clothing making it very functional.
Sound Quality
We tested the Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset in various ways during the time we examined it. Of course we tested it using games over 5 hours in total including testing of the microphone over Teamspeak during team games. We tested the headset whilst listening to music including pop, rock, dance, and hip hop for over an hour. We also tested the headset whilst watching movies for over 3 hours too. The sound quality is fairly average. For a budget headset this is fine, and it does the job well. We didn't perform this test using an X-Fi soundcard and believe that this would enhance the 3D qualities of the headset. For it's purpose this headset is a great performer and is a winner in it's category. Whilst the quality of the output is good the microphone quality is also satisfying the output is clear and audible. Making this headset ideal for gamers who participate in online gaming teams and of course would be suitable for instant messaging sessions where a microphone is needed.
Conclusion
In conclusion, our experience with the Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset is rather pleasant. It is a good performer and allows those on a budget to enhance their gaming experience, especially if it is accompanied by an X-Fi soundcard to bring out the 3D surround capabilities and this will enhance your gaming experience and will aid you in gaining those frags!
