ASUS unveils the HYPER M.2 X16 CARD, an M.2 RAID card that uses X16 PCIe lanes. It has four PCIe 3.0 M.2 slots for RAID configurations with a transfer bandwidth of up to 128Gbps. It also supports Intel VROC technology, allowing you to use CPU PCIe lanes to create BOOTable RAID arrays. The ASUS HYPER M.2 X16 CARD comes with an integrated blower-style fan to cool down the M.2 drives installed inside. The stylish aluminium cover also works as a heat sink for the M.2 drives and it comes with pre-installed thermal pads that will come in contact with the M.2 drives’ NAND chips and controller.
While the ASUS HYPER M.2 X16 CARD features Intel VROC support available on ASUS ROG’s X299 motherboard offerings, the HYPER CARD was featured on der8auer’s AMD X399 setup powered with a Ryzen Threadripper processor to configure RAID on 8 Samsung 960 PRO M.2 NVMe drives. The setup was using an ASUS ROG TR4 motherboard, the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme. There’s no official news or update from ASUS regarding AMD TR4 support for the ASUS HYPER M.2 X16 CARD as of this writing.
