Today AORUS are going back to their roots, releasing a new laptop that blows the barn door off performance charts, incorporates premium features, and tips the scales at a hair under 8lb. Welcome to the all-new AORUS X9.

Awe-inspiring Horsepower

The most eye-opening aspect of the AORUS X9 is without doubt its performance hardware. At its heart is the Intel Core i7-7820HK, an overclockable 14nm Kaby Lake processor which has previously featured in other premium AORUS models. Augmenting the CPU are not one but two NVIDIA GTX 1070 GPUs, configured in SLI with 8GB GDDR5 VRAM each. These specs alone make it worth a look.

But what do you do with all that horsepower? Well, drive panel pixels of course. The X9 can be configured with either a 4K IPS display rated at 100% of the Adobe RGB gamut, or a 3K 120Hz display perfect for gaming.

Rounding off the performance aspects are Tri-Storage capability (up to two 512MB M.2 SSDs and one 2TB mechanical HDD), four DDR4 slots supporting a maximum of 64GB RAM, and a plethora of high speed I/O options including Thunderbolt 3.0. In essence, the X9 fits the very definition of 'desktop replacement'.



Mechanical Keyboard

It would have been all too easy to pair these performance options with one of those horrible domed rubber keyboards. Thankfully AORUS were wise to that eventuality and have instead kitted out the X9 with a fully mechanical keyboard.

AORUS claim that the X9 is the thinnest laptop to feature a fully mechanical keyboard, and we can't dispute that. Each key, which appears to have a low profile keycap, incorporates a 'clicky' brown mechanical switch which should be good for many millions of key presses. Each key also has per-key RGB LED backlighting, but there's no news yet on just how configurable the setup as a whole is... we tentatively going with 'very'.

Streamlined Cooling

Performance within a sleek and compact chassis will always necessitate a novel cooling solution. In the X9 AORUS are claiming to have taken inspiration from exotic sports cars and fighter jet in the creation of a new streamlined cooling solution. Despite compact dimensions four large heatpipes whisk heat away from toasty components to ample venting throughout the laptop, aided by four cooling fans rather than the standard two.



Naturally, it is 2017 and AORUS couldn't let the design slide without adding just a little external RGB lighting. All four sides incorporate RGB Fusion lighting zones, whilst the AORUS Hub can control these as well as provide detailed sensor readouts for a the laptop as a whole.
