Long anticipated, almost here - AMD's Zen CPU and APU microarchitecture has been on the horizon for years, but it's only now that the designers are finally preparing to take the wraps off the chips and let them smile for the camera. This December 13th AMD will be laying on a livestream they've dubbed 'New Horizon' that will showcase Zen operating in its native environment - the gaming PC, naturally - and hopefully shed further light on the CPU's release details.

The event will be hosted by Geoff Keighley, who just yesterday concluded a similar role at The Game Awards 2016 show. Keighley's inclusion, alongside professional eSports athletes, underscores AMD's gaming focus for this particular product reveal. Clearly Zen will be important throughout the industry, but recapturing share of the lucrative gaming and enthusiast market will be critical to giving the new products the best possible start.

One piece of information we now have confirmed howevever is that the Zen platform will be launching in Q1 2017, so we probably shouldn't expect an early Xmas present.

The announcement echoes Spring's AMD Capsaicin livestream event, where Raja Koduri unveiled the Radeon PRO DUO and demonstrated new advances in VR alongside luminaries of Crytek and Oculus.

Hopefully the event will be a true 'Moment of Zen' for AMD's under pressure CPU division. The team could do with a big win.

More information can be found at the Official New Horizon landing page. The livestream begins on Tuesday December 13th at 3pm CST (9pm GMT).
