New triple-A game releases have dried up in recent weeks, and that has coincided with a drop in the cadence of graphics driver releases from both NVIDIA and AMD. Radeon graphics hardware owners will have to wait a little longer for their next update, but AMD have taken the time to put the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2 drivers through Microsoft's WHQL validation process, itself an important process prior to packaging the software for business roll-out and OEMs.
The RASE 20.4.2 drivers were released on April 24th ahead of Predator: Hunting Grounds and Gears of War Tactics, making it over a month since AMD issued a new set of optimisations and fixes. The known issues have remained unchanged through the WHQL process and many will be of critical concern to substancial number of end-users. One in particular catches the eye: Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.
It's a little surprising that Phantasy Star Online 2 and Halo 2 Anniversary Edition (part of the Master Chief Collection) didn't receive an optimisation pass for a May driver release. Perhaps performance in these titles are fine, or (in PSO2's case) the driver development team has not had an opportunity to get to grips with the title.
You can as usual download the drivers at amd.com/en/support by selecting your hardware configuration and OS. It is compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and 10, and all GCN graphics hardware (as far back as the HD 7000-series).
