After an long wait reaching back to a technology showcase in 2021, AMD will be finally be extending their Ryzen desktop CPU lineup by launching the Ryzen 7 5800X3D on April 20th, four months after its official unveiling at CES 2022. The new consumer CPU will represent the debut of AMD 3D V-Cache, complementing the 8-core / 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800X by adding a huge reservoir of stacked cache and thereby improving performance by up-to 15%. At release, it will have an MSRP of $449 USD and be compatible with the wide range of AM4 motherboards in the hands of consumers today.



Preparing the way for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be a series of CPUs that extend the Ryzen desktop range, particularly at the more affordable end of the spectrum. Three "Zen 2"-based Ryzen 4000-series processors will be introduced to add more performance in low cost segments, while three "Zen 3" CPUs will make the platform more competitive in middle tiers. Slotting in near the top of the stack will be the Ryzen 7 5700X, an 8-core / 16-thread chip clocking up to 4.6GHz with an MSRP of $299 USD.



Furthermore, long-term Ryzen platform owners will be able to perform slot-in processor upgrades with these chips on their older AM4 motherboards. The new Ryzen 5000 series processors will be compatible with even AMD's X370, B350 and A320 chipsets after BIOS updates which will begin roll-out in early April.
