In December new leaks reported at Videocardz.com indicated that NVIDIA were planning the release not just of the GeForce RTX 2060, but also a GTX 1160. So far these cards haven't made it to market, but this week Videocardz have stated that two new sources have come forward to claim the card in question will be the GTX 1660 Ti, as first mooted at Expreview.

The details haven't changed much. This card is allegedly powered by a TU116 GPU with 1536 CUDA cores, 6GB of GDDR6 memory and a 192-bit memory bus. Of course, those specifications pale in comparison to the recently released GeForce RTX 2060, but they do line up nicely against the ageing GTX 1060 6GB's 1280 CUDA cores.

Also note the different branding: GTX vs RTX. Utilising the GTX prefix would indicate limited or no support for NVIDIA's RTX features including real-time ray tracing and DLSS, drawing a clear and welcome distinction for consumers.

It's difficult to extrapolate performance from the specifications listed. Clearly it should be streets ahead of the GTX 1060 6GB (which has only 1280 CUDA cores and GDDR5 VRAM), but overtaking the 1920 Pascal cores on the GTX 1070 will be a challenge that will go some way to proving whether Turing's architectural improvements are meaningful in rasterisation.

Remember that this is just a rumour, so take it with the obligatory pinch of salt. Similar rumours prior to the RTX 20-series unveiling at Gamescom were notoriously inaccurate, the reverse of RTX 2060 rumours prior to CES.
