UL Corporation (formerly Futuremark) announced the addition of a PCI-Express 4.0 Feature Test to the ubiquitous 3DMark graphics benchmarking suite earlier this month. Billed as a means of directly comparing GPU to CPU bandwidth on PCI-Express 3.0 and 4.0 systems, it was scheduled for a somewhat nebulous 'Summer 2019' release. Today, a little earlier than expected by many, it's been incorporated into the main 3DMark release available to the public.
PCI Express feature test
PCI Express (PCIe) is a standard interface that provides high-bandwidth communication between devices in your PC. New PCIe 4.0 interfaces provide up to twice the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0. With more bandwidth, games can transfer more data, reduce loading times, and support more complex scenes. The 3DMark PCI Express feature test measures the bandwidth available to your GPU.
- Measure the bandwidth available to your GPU.
- Test the latest PCIe 4.0 hardware.
- Compare the bandwidth of PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0.

Consumers will be able to get their hands on PCI-Express 4.0 hardware in the form of AMD Ryzen 3000-series CPUs, X570 motherboards and Radeon RX 5700-series GPUs on July 7th, at which time it will be the exclusive platform for the enhanced standard. The advanced software release also puts a stable build of the benchmark into the hands of reviewers and retailers seeking to put the new platform through its paces well ahead of launch.
UL's 3DMark suite is currently available through Steam as part of the 2019 Summer Sale priced at £3.44. It can also be picked up as a bundle with PCMark 10 and VRMark for £6.84.
